Navigating to the Teams Admin Center, under "Notifications and Alerts" then "Rules, we will be able to see the "Device state rule" which we can edit:
Under the Device state rule, we notice that the Condition is for the Device Health Status to be Offline and the Frequency is in Realtime. These two cannot be changed at the time of this blog post. However, we can Add our Teams devices to the list by clicking the "Add" button:
From here, we can search for the devices that we want to add to the list. In the example below, I'm adding 2 Poly Studio MTR on Android devices to be monitored by this rule:
Once the devices are added, we can proceed to configure the actions. In this example, we can select a Teams channel to be notified whenever a devices goes offline. Its best to create a dedicated channel for this purpose and only allow device administrators access to this channel:
Notice that we can also configure a webhook URL for TAC to send notification alerts to. This will send a XML message to the specified webhook so that a listening app can take the necessary actions. When ready, we click on the Save button and the alerts will commence. To see these alerts, we simply go to the Teams channel:
Finally, as an IT admin I would like to get alerts via email when a device goes offline. Since its a Teams channel, we can eaily get email alerts whenever a new message is posted by TAC. As a best practice, we should also add other device admins to the channel so they can receive the alerts as well:
In conclusion, Teams Admin Center provides an easy way for IT Admins to be alerted whenever a Teams device goes offline.
